i have a question and it may be a dumb one but i'd like to know... i have a gp200 motor in my li2. the engine was built w/ new s.i.l. (?) cases from e-bay and work fine, HOWEVER there are no numbers on the case... i have seen new s.i.l. cases advertised on there and no numbers were notated but really, is this a thing? i would like to get it street leagal but what would i tell the d.m.v?

After market cases didn't normally have numbers on them.


You have some options. I'm not a lawyer or DMV employee so YMMV.


Do nothing and tell the DMV that it didn't come with a number. They might issue you one or kick the whole thing out or treat it like a custom build. None of which are great.


If you stamp the same number from your frame you risk using a number that's on file (frame and motor don't normally match unles it's spanish). Same problem if you just make one up.


If it were me I'd find a junk case that will never be on the road and copy those numbers to your new block. Destroy the old block. Again this could be legally iffy.
