Hello, I just wanted to share some pics from the ORE 100. This year we were treated to Mother Nature trying to dampen our spirits with a fire hose from heaven. When Pacific NW locals say 'Its raining hard" you'd better believe that it is raining like a Mo-Fo!! The regularity run was converted into a group ride, due to the impossible conditions. Safety First was a good call on this day. Eugene got an unofficial total of 1" of rain on Friday and 1.5" on Sat. It literally didn't stop raining. But hardy sprits prevailed and majority of the ride was completed by the 40+ riders. No matter how good the rain gear was, everyone was wet. The lunch location looked like a ski lodge with wet gear hanging on every possible spot near the propane heaters.
My scooter did not make it. My foam air filter was so wet, when I squeezed it, it looked like a dish sponge - the equivalent of being water boarded, my scooter simply could not breath. The only solution was cutting a hug hole in the foam side so I could limp back to my hotel.
Overall, this event felt like a band of Vikings returning to land after nearly sinking at sea. Loud cheers and foamy beer cans collided in congratulations. Those who actually went the distance can say they survived despite what Mother Nature had planned.
I really enjoyed this event. I met so many new friends. I'll be ready next year...for real.
Rog.
Friday at Falling Sky Brewery - Note the name and the umbrellas....very appropriate.
Saturday morning at The Paddock. The falling rain is not easy to see, but it is raining.
Lunch break at Coast Fork Brewery.
The place looks like a Ski Lodge. Everyone trying to dry out gloves and jakcets.
The finish line. Somone asked me if I needed to check my oil. I sure did!!
Sat eve was spent at The Monkey's Paw Tiki bar. Great drinks and Northern Soul 45's spun all night.
Sunday morning for awards and a final run. This day was damp but not raining.
Time to head back to Portland. Such a great time!!! Thanks Top Dead Center SC. You guys did great with the shit weather. I'll be back next year.
