Broken rear shock.
Well, this happened last Friday.
I was headed into work at 6:30am. At some point I felt the back of the scooter drop a bit. I thought, "That's odd, I didn't feel the front wheel hit that small pothole??" I didn't have time to glance over my shoulder to see if I had rolled over a moving object. It was still dark out, so it would have been a Rat not a Squirrel. But nothing catastrophic happened. I rolled on and thought nothing of it. About ¾’s of the way to work I recall thinking how springy the ride felt and actually bounced up and down on the saddle to feel the effect of the springy back end.
Pulling into work I heard a deep plastic grinding sound. It sounded like I was dragging my kickstand. But I knew that was impossible, I wasn't leaning that hard. I dashed inside to sign in.
Later that morning I noticed that the rear mud flap was on the ground. ODD, I wonder if my tire was going flat. That was when I really began to check it out…and that is when I realized the back shock was totally broken. I then realized that the spring was actually pressed up against my fuel tank….with the coil wire pinched between the tank and the coil. Lucky for me, my tank was well secured and the coil wire didnt short out.
This is a 2 year old Escorts brand shock. From what I know, it is a trusted brand.
On my lunch break I hopped in the company truck and raced home. I grabbed the large wrench and the old shock I had rat holed away.
YES!!! For once in my life a Rat Holed part has actually come in handy!!! I was able to ride home and didn't seem to suffer any damage at all.

Good point...I doubt that I did. I'll be sure my replacment shock gets some pin-schlicken.
