Wet Weather Woe’s

I need help solving a puzzle.  I live in Oregon, our reputation for wet weather is often oversold, but today the legendary storm clouds are letting us have it and I'm having some issues with my motor bogging down.

The symptom is a lack of throttle / acceleration when traveling in 3rd or 4th gear at speeds above 40mph (below that speed my motor runs just fine).  When this symptom hits the motor feels like it is bogging down.  The more I crank the throttle up, the more the motor wants to die.  If I let off the throttle, I can maintain a speed, but can not accelerate.  Sometimes the motor will seem to die completely, although the motor continues to run, it’ll sputter and stumble bad, unable to maintain any speed regardless of what I do with the throttle.   And then, like magic, it will recover. Sometimes kickin…

UPDATE: Here is my fix. So far it has worked well (although the rain has not been quite as biblical).

After playing with some cardboard templates, I came up with this idea. This is made of sheet aluminum. It is a barrier to the majority of the road spray coming off the rear tire.

ree

I spotted this spot in the frame and realized I could make a mounting stud for my barrier. This is removable and very stable.

With the air bellow attached to the carb. There is enough space for the barrier and the air filter.

I ran this on the Oregon 100 rally and had no issues. It only rained in the evening. The rest of the ride was dry and cool. This is also easy to remove. Two nuts and its off. I did have to hammer the aluminum to give some space for the fuel tap and the fuel line. I'm no body work master but nothing is touching so no fear of cutting a fuel line or wearing something out.

I'll add updates whenever I get the chance to ride in a down pour again.

Cheers, Rog

Looking for feedback on twin cylinder conversions

Hello everybody, I am seeking feedback from anyone with knowledge and experience in building, repairing, and/or living with any of the twin cylinder setups i.e. Targa Twin, Chimera, et al. I have always loved the concept since reading about the Innocenti prototype decades ago, and the thought of creating something similar sounds appealing. Yes, I am well aware there are simpler and cheaper ways to go about things, but thats not the point. I am looking for input regarding conversion-related problems as well as support (or lack thereof) from the kit makers. FWIW the end goal is not high hp but more about creating something in the style of what Innocenti might have produced; conservative port timing, piston controlled cylinders, 2-into1 stock-looking expansion box, full panels. Thank you!

SIP VAPE 12 v conversion

I am installing a VAPE 12v AC system on a 1959 Li125. Everything seems to be going well. Headlights work however I do not have 12v festoons for the rear. I am standing at the front of the bike, rev it up and POW the headlight burns out. I try to measure the 12V ac out of the reg and it seems to flicker up to 14+ volts. 2 questions:

  1. Is it ok to measure the AC output of the regulator with a digital volt meter set on AC mode?

  2. Does the lack of tail light bulbs matter on the overall system load and does wattage of these bulbs make a difference. I am seeing 10w festoon bulbs at my local autoparts store.

Thanks for your input. Feel free to call and chat 407-405-3255

Love my VAPE 12v setup. Much better than the BGM kit. The VAPE has full strength light at idle while the BGM looks like a 6v setup

Racing Cylinder QUATTRINI & SMARTCARB 26 Billet SC2 Flat slider

Subject Question: Racing Cylinder QUATTRINI & SMARTCARB 26 Billet SC2 Flat slider

Hello. I am rebuilding my S2 Li125. I have chosen the QUATTRINI 210. When I review the specs on SIP it recommends a 26mm carb of choice which leads me to the 26mm SMARTCARB and my wanting to reach out to get feedback from those whom may have chosen to take this route.

Who has tried this CARB and can give me peace of mind ? And advice.? I have a friend whom is helping me put it back together and whom has experience installing the 210 but when I spoke with him about this carb he said he didn’t have experience with it yet hence my question.

The specs also recommend a traditional box style exhaust. I have chosen the Racing Exhaust GORI Super Sport with a 40mm diameter manifold and suited for a 26mm carb.

The…
